How To Send Your GRE Scores To Universities

Now that you have written your exam, you might wonder how to send your results to the intended colleges. This article will guide you on how to do just that.

If you registered for a computer-based test, you will be asked to select the score receivers (intending institutions) at the test center. For a paper-based test, you need to designate the receiving colleges at the time of registration.

After taking the GRE, you will receive the unofficial result of both your Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning tests. This unofficial result is for reference only, and you cannot submit this to any institution.

The official result, which includes your Analytical Writing section, will be available on your ETS (Educational Testing Service) account within 10-15 days after your test date.

Are The Unofficial GRE Scores Accurate

Yes, the unofficial gre scores are exactly what you should expect. You cannot use this result for official purposes except the official one.

Can You Send Your Result On The Test Date?

Although your official results are not yet available on the test date, you can still send the unofficial scores to the receiving institutions.

You can choose these institutions after completing the test. You do not need to know school codes to send your scores, as the school codes are in the computer system.

Do You Need To Pay To Get Your GRE Score Sent To Schools?

That depends. Your GRE registration fee includes free result mailing for up to four schools. If you wish to send your results to more schools, you will have to pay a token of $24 for each receiving institution.

Can I Send My GRE Score Before Completing My Application?

Sending your scores before submitting your college application is an option. In this case, you won’t have the option to indicate that you’ve already sent your scores during your application. Instead, you’ll be choosing to send your scores in advance.

Also, the admission committee does not open your GRE scores unless you have completed your application. Hence, you should weigh this option carefully before deciding.

How Long Does It Take Before The Institution Receives My GRE Score?

All candidates get a mail with their score within 10-15 days after the test date, and it will appear immediately on your ETS account. These scores is also electronically sent to the receiving institutions. Most universities prefer this option as it is automated.

If you prefer to send your score via mail, it can take up to 10 business days before the institution receives it. So, if you are using this option, consider the time frame and make sure you send your score well before the admission deadline.

Can I Contest My GRE Score?

You can contest your GRE score but this service is limited to the Analytical Writing section. The Quant and Verbal Sections are adaptive and the possibility of mistakes is negligible. To contest your score, you need to submit a written request to ETS explaining why you believe there was an error in the scoring of your essays.

You must provide essential information such as your full name, contact details, GRE registration or appointment number, test date, and specific concerns about the scoring. You also have to pay a non-refundable score review fee. Once ETS receives your request, your essay and scoring will be reviewed and it can take a few weeks to be completed.

However, it’s important to note that this score review is limited to the Analytical Writing section. You cannot contest scores in the Verbal Reasoning or Quantitative Reasoning sections.

Although the option to contest your score exists, it is rare and the outcome may vary. Carefully evaluate your chances before you apply to have your scores contested. It might be best if you prepared better for your subsequent sittings.
